Boston accent BRANDING
Concept, Art Direction, Design
Boston Accent is an independent Boston-based literary journal, which seeks to promote diverse and underrepresented voices.
Written accent marks are used to evoke the phonetic sound of a spoken Boston accent– "Bõśtøn Âcçent” becomes "Bahztun Axezent” when pronounced out loud. To represent the publication’s diverse contributors, the marks themselves are pulled from a variety of languages. The design system also pays homage to Boston’s rich Revolution-era heritage of independent publishing through the use of transitional-serif typography – a staple of 18th century printing.
